Dr. George BONAS
Dr. George BONAS is a founding member and Managing Director of CeRISS. He has more than 15 years’ experience in International Cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) with emphasis on bilateral and multilateral S&T cooperation between the EU and its neighbouring countries and regions (Eastern Partnership countries, Russia, Central Asian, Western Balkan, South Mediterranean/Arabic countries and Turkey). Among others he was in charge of the preparation and negotiation of the ‘EU – Western Balkan countries Action Plan in S&T’ and coordinated the process for the adoption of the first ‘Action Plan on cooperation in Science and Technology’ of the Member States of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation - BSEC.
He has long experience as coordinator of international cooperation and capacity building projects in the aforementioned geographical regions (coordinator of the IncoNet for Easter Europe and Central Asia – IncoNet EECA and of the IncoNet for South Caucasus and Central Asia – IncoNet CA/SC, key partner in the IncoNet for the Euro-Mediterranean cooperation – MIRA, etc.) and has been member of several policy-making committees and panels dealing with International Cooperation in STI (INCO Programme Committee, BSEC Working Group on S&T, Monitoring Committee – MoCo of the Euro-Mediterranean Cooperation, etc.)
He started his career as researcher at the National Hellenic Research Foundation in Athens, served as Scientific Officer at the European Commission (Research and Innovation DG) and at the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT) in Greece and was also Advisor for STI at the International Center for Black Sea Studies (ICBSS) for more than 9 years.
