Conference on EU-Central Asia Cooperation in addressing Energy Research & Innovation, Astana, 1 October 2015
This was the 2nd Policy Stakeholders Conference (PSC) organised by the IncoNet CA project on 30 September - 1 October 2015, in Astana/Kazakhstan. This year's focus was on Energy Research & Innovation, a topic which is set high on the political agenda of both the European Union and the Central Asia countries .
The aim of the conference was to present energy policies and research or supporting projects implemented by international organizations (OSCE, UNDP, EBRD, ISTC, etc.) and research institutions in the European Union and in Central Asian countries.
The conference was a forum to stimulate exchanges of views and create new synergies in the area of Research and Innovation in Energy under the new Framework Programme of the European Union "Horizon 2020" and beyond. The conference was attended by some 100 high-level participants from 18 countries, including a delegation from the European Commission headed by Ms. Maria Cristina Russo, Director of International Cooperation, DG Research and Innovation, the Minister of Investment and Development of Kazakhstan, Mr. Asset Issekesev, and representatives of the KIC Inno Energy as well as the ERANET Geothermal.
On the sidelines of the conference a workshop on "The EU and Kazakhstan: innovation through cooperation" took place on October 2, 2015 with the support of the Investment and Foreign ministries of Kazakhstan.
It should be noted that the first PSC on "EU-CA Cooperation in Addressing Climate Change Research" was held in September 2014 in Bishkek/Kyrgyzstan, hosted by the Parliament of the country.
